What is the Sacral Chakra?

The Sacral Chakra is one of the most complicated chakras.  There are so many layers to it and it can be a delicate balance for many people.  At the most basic level, is it about feeling and flowing.  Feeling physical sensations, feeling emotions, feeling sexual desire, feeling pleasure, but also flowing through the emotions, sensual experiences, sexual experiences, and using those feelings to allow creativity to flow through us.

Learn about the Sacral Chakra

Root & Bend to Ascend

Where the Root Chakra is about steadiness and stability, the Sacral Chakra is about movement and flow.  As I always say, “Root & Bend to Ascend.”  This speaks to the importance of the Root and Sacral Chakras in the personal development process.   If we are not Rooted, if we don’t have a sense of safety and trust, it is much harder to embrace the change and movement of the Sacral Chakra, because it feels unsafe.  We must be rooted with stability (through the Root Chakra), which allows us to flexibly flow with life (through the Sacral Chakra), in order to ascend into the highest version of ourselves.

Imagine a strong flower, rooted in the ground.  It represents the Root Chakra.  Now imagine a flood, causing water to flow all around the flower.  The water represents the Sacral Chakra.  If the flower isn’t rooted, it will be washed away.  In this same way, when we aren’t rooted, we can be washed away with emotions and intense energy. It can feel uncontrollable.  If the flower is rooted, it will flow and dance in the water.  It may flop down to the ground as the water eventually washes away, but it’s rooted.  With time and sunshine, it will rise again.

Sacral Chakra Balance

When the Sacral Chakra is balanced, we allow ourselves to process emotions and explore our sexuality.  We make space for creativity and pleasure.  We can go with the flow.  When the Sacral Chakra is underactive, we may repress our sexuality and deny ourselves of pleasure.  We may hide or avoid our emotions.  When the Sacral Chakra is overactive, we may have addictions (pleasure, sexual, etc.).  We may experience intense emotions that feel uncontrollable.

Desire, Pleasure, & The Sacral Chakra

Desire is associated with the Sacral Chakra.  Desire can be a spiritual, emotional, or sensual experience.  It gives us a sense of direction and makes us feel alive.  Desire can be invigorating and inspiring.  The Sacral Chakra is where we define our desires.  A balanced Sacral Chakra will allow for a healthy sense of desire.  It is important to allow ourselves to feel a sense of desire, without repressing it.  It is a part of the human experience to want things.  Desire provides clarity regarding what we want to experience in our lives. If we repress our healthy desires, then we bind up our Sacral Chakra and will have no direction.

Pleasure is associated with the Sacral Chakra.  It is a natural part of the human experience.  For many, pleasure has been repressed since childhood.  As humans, it is important for us to find pleasure in life.  We must make space to do things that light up our energy system with a sense of joy and invigoration.  Pleasure truly does heal our energy systems.  It is a natural remedy.  Spending time engaging in pleasurable activities will soothe your soul and put you more in touch with who you really are.

Guilt & The Sacral Chakra

Guilt inhibits us from experiencing desire and pleasure, so it binds up the energy of the Sacral Chakra.  We can’t fully sense the experience of desire or pleasure, if we are feeling guilty at the same time.  Perhaps the guilt is internally imposed by our own judgements that we don’t deserve to feel so good.  This can be a result of poor self-worth and a lack of self-love.  This guilt may also be imposed on us due to societal pressures and expectations.  Guilt can be strong and weigh on us heavily, or it can be a more subtle feeling that we are automatically internalizing and using to block our own enjoyment without even thinking about it.

Guilt also blocks us from fully experiencing the shadow parts of ourselves. We may feel guilty for mistakes we have made.  We may feel guilty for the darkest parts of our personality.  Guilt cuts us off from our shadows.  This limits us from becoming a full and integrated human being.  We hide the parts of us that make us feel guilty.  Carl Jung said, “One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making darkness conscious.”   We have to overcome guilt in order to explore all of who we are, and find a place of self-acceptance and self-love.  This is “shadow work” and this brings our Sacral Chakras into balance.  Processing the emotions through the Sacral Chakra, allows us to then use that wisdom and power to create the lives we want.

Healthy Sacral Chakra Flow

Living life with an understanding of why the Sacral Chakra may become unbalanced, may help you to monitor your own Sacral Chakra.  You can make intentional choices regarding your life to bring the Sacral Chakra into balance.  The Sacral Chakra needs to have a healthy experience of emotion, a creative outlet, and a life where desire and pleasure are healthily embraced.  A connection with water or the moon helps the Sacral Chakra to flow, and it can be visualized into activation.  Shadow work and inner child work helps process emotions through the Sacral Chakra.  Energy Healing such and sound healing or Reiki healing can give your Sacral Chakra a boost, working through any blocks and restoring its balance.

If you would like to know more about your unique energy flow, and bring your chakras into balance, book a Reiki Session with me.  I include a chakra consult with each Reiki Session.  I can tell you about your chakra flow and how you can make choices in your daily life to maintain energetic balance.  I also offer Energy Coaching Sessions to help you continue make choices to bring your chakras into balance over time, assisting you to find a place of overall health and wellbeing.  Sound baths are helpful in releasing excess energy in the Sacral Chakra and bringing in a sense of flow and flexibility to your energy system.  Shadow work sessions with me are intuitively guided so that we can identify the shadow parts of you that would benefit from being processed, and you are given support in the process of understanding them and integrating them.   Lastly, you may be carrying guilt with you from a past life, impacting your chakra flow.  Akashic Record Readings are helpful in diving into these dynamics, bringing them to light so that you can be aware of patterns that may be perpetuating these blocks, which allows you to consciously make choices to overcome them.  My practice takes a multimodal approach to energy, and I would love to support you in the way the most resonates with your soul.
