What is the Root Chakra?
When I think of the Root Chakra, I think of a tree. I love to say, “Root and Bend to Ascend.” In order for a tree to grow, it must be firmly rooted into the Earth. In order to evolve, we must first Root. This is the role of the Root Chakra. When the Root Chakra is healthy and balanced, we feel secure and stable. We are not in a place of fear or anxiety, rather we feel safe and calm.
Root Chakra Balance
When the Root Chakra does not have enough energy, you may feel fearful and anxious. You may feel like you are in a whirlwind, moving through life quickly while navigating the chaos. In a sense, you’re are not connecting energetically with the ground, but being ping-ponged through life. A person with an underactive Root Chakra has poor boundaries and feels generally ungrounded. In this case, you would benefit from putting more attention on your Root Chakra.
When the Root Chakra has too much energy, you may feel stuck. You may feel physically sluggish and slow. You may hoard things or be materialistic. It is because there is too much energy in the Root Chakra and you are feeling overly connected to the physical world. In this case, you would benefit from putting more attention to other chakras, which will help you to become more motivated to move, take action, and connect with your Higher Self.
A balanced Root Chakra will give you a sense of stability and security. You will feel calm and stable. You will be able to maintain your sense of inner peace in most situations. People usually feel calmer when they in the presence of someone with a balanced Root Chakra.
Trauma & the Root Chakra
When someone feels unsafe, the Root Chakra is not in balance. Trauma shows up in the Root Chakra because people who have been through trauma, have had their safety threatened. This impacts the flow of energy in the Root Chakra. We may carry that trauma with us in our Root Chakras over the course of our lives.
If we live in a place of fear (through trauma or the human condition more generally) we will not know how to raise children from a place of safety and stability. We raise them to be as fearful as we are. In my experience, Ancestral Trauma often appears in the Root Chakra. Trauma is carried down generation to generation through the Root Chakra. Those who are breaking these patterns, are stepping out of the dysfunction and fear, and into a place of stability and love. This brings healing to their energy, and the Root Chakra specifically, impacting future generations’ chakra flow as well.
Root to “Calm Down”
When I am feeling overwhelmed or ungrounded, I take a moment to Root. If I can get outside for some fresh air, that always helps. Simply being in nature activates the Root Chakra, especially if you are barefoot, or sitting on the ground. But if I can’t be outside, I consciously imagine dropping my energy down through my feet. I actually attempt to obtain a sense of heaviness in my energy, connecting me to the Earth. Sometimes I will even imagine roots coming from the base of my body. From this place of energetic stability and groundedness, my activated Root Chakra helps me to address life from a place of steadiness and calm. While the term “Calm Down,” is never particularly helpful in the moment, it is more helpful when we think of it as a reminder to activate our Root Chakras. To “Calm Down” is about bringing your energy down, through your Root Chakra to connect energetically with the Earth. In this way, we can find a sense of calm.
Healthy Root Chakra Flow
Living life with an understanding of why the Root Chakra may become unbalanced, may help you to monitor your own Root Chakra. You can make intentional choices regarding your life to bring the Root Chakra into balance. The Root Chakra needs a connection with the Earth or the ground, or can be visualized into activation. Being conscious of your body helps the Root Chakra to become activated, so things like yoga, dance, or running are very helpful. Energy Healing such and sound healing or Reiki healing can give your Root Chakra a boost, working through any blocks and restoring its balance.
If you would like to know more about your unique energy flow, and bring your chakras into balance, book a Reiki Session with me. I include a chakra consult with each Reiki Session. I can tell you about your chakra flow and how you can make choices in your daily life to maintain energetic balance. I also offer Energy Coaching Sessions to help you continue make choices to bring your chakras into balance over time, assisting you to find a place of overall health and wellbeing. Sound baths are helpful in releasing excess energy in the Root Chakra and bringing in a sense of groundedness to your energy system. I specifically recommend the gong and crystal singing bowls for Root Chakra work. Lastly, you may be carrying traumas or fears with you from a past life, which is impacting your current chakra flow. Akashic Record Readings are helpful in diving into these dynamics, bringing them to light so that you can be aware of patterns that may be perpetuating these blocks, which allows you to consciously make choices to overcome them. My practice takes a multimodal approach to energy, and I would love to support you in the way the most resonates with your soul.
